Justice for Hassan Diab

For over 15 years, Hassan Diab has fought false allegations of his involvement in a crime he did not commit. It is time to put an end to this miscarriage of justice.

The Ottawa university lecturer was accused by French authorities of involvement in the 1980 Rue Copernic bombing. He was arrested by the RCMP in November 2008 and placed under strict bail conditions until he was extradited to France in 2014. He spent more than three years in prison in France before the case against him collapsed. He was released in January 2018 after two French judges ruled the evidence against him wasn't strong enough to take to trial. He was never formally charged.

On April 21, 2023, the nightmare that Hassan Diab and his family have endured was prolonged further by the guilty verdict produced by an unfair trial at the Court of Assize in Paris. The Court ignored all exonerating evidence (including Hassan’s alibis and the fact that his fingerprints and palm prints do not match those of the suspect), and relied on discredited and unfounded allegations.

The Canadian government must protect Hassan Diab and say NO to any request from France for his extradition. He and his family have suffered long enough!
