Please join us on March 26th to hear Robyn Maynard, keynote speaker of the Shirley Greenberg Annual Lecture at the University of Ottawa. Presented by the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies, each year the conference showcases a distinguished speaker who played a significant role in the promotion of women.
Robyn Maynard is a Black feminist writer, grassroots community organizer and intellectual based in Montréal. Her debut book, Policing Black Lives: State Violence in Canada from Slavery to the Present, traces the violent realities of anti-blackness from the slave ships to prisons, classrooms and beyond. Maynard provides readers with the first comprehensive account of nearly four hundred years of state-sanctioned surveillance, criminalization and punishment of Black lives in Canada.
