In this September's Community Classroom, we are lucky to have Dr. Philip JM Leech to deliver a lecture based on his PhD dissertation and new book The State of Palestine: A Critical Analysis.
Dr. Leech is a Senior Fellow for the Centre on Government at the University of Ottawa and has taught at both a graduate and undergraduate level at Liverpool, Plymouth and Exeter universities. Based on extensive field research interviews and participant observation undertaken across several sites in Nablus and the surrounding area (in the West Bank), his book The State of Palestine: a critical analysis provides a bottom-up interpretation of the Palestinian Authority's agenda and challenges the popular interpretation that its governance represents the only realistic path to Palestinian independence.
Dr. Leech's presentation will mostly focus on the failure of the Israel-Palestine peace process.
Dr. Leech is also the co-editor of Political Identities and Popular Uprisings in the Middle East (Rowman and Littlefield International, 2016). His recent consultancy work has included: research reports on the Palestinian economy for Christian Aid; a project on corruption in the Middle East for Transparency International; and course design for the Royal Military College of Canada.
You can find Dr. Leech on Twitter @phil_haqeeqa.
