Premier Ottawa Screening of the Documentary "Ghosts"
"Ghosts" was awarded the "Prix du Public"
at the Montreal Human Rights Film Festival 2010.
Co-sponsored by Amnesty International and Nowar-Paix
Three Canadian men; Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad El Maati and Muayyed Nureddin were detained and tortured for months and years in Syria and, in Ahmad El Maati's case, Egypt. Upon their release, they return to Canada and try to find answers to why they were detained in the first place.
This is a documentary about how fragile the balance between democracy, human right and national security can be in the post 9/11 era. The film also focuses on the effects of torture on the human mind and spirit.
