The 6th annual Child Friendly City Day in Ottawa will be celebrated at the Centennial Flame, Parliament Hill at 1:00p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009; and then at Library and Archives Canada The event will be hosted by Children for One Another. CONTACT:  Every Child is Sacred  & Children for One Another: junegirvan@rogers.com Child Friendly City Day in Ottawa 2009, marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (ratified by the General Assembly on November 20, 1989) and Canada's 16th national Child Day (Canada Child Day Act - Assented to May 6, 1993). Canada's Child Day, November 20,  is the result of a private Members Bill put by Senator Mac Harb. Child Friendly City Day in Ottawa 2009 will be a historic day in the life of the children of our city. We officially embark on the journey toward Ottawa as a UNICEF Child Friendly City. Mayor Larry O'Brien will commit to serving in friendship as the “Children’s Mayor”, championing the principles of UNICEF’S Child Friendly Cities initiative for children living throughout the City of Ottawa. Mr. Nigel Fisher, CEO and President of UNICEF will be in Ottawa to witness the Mayor's signature. For Child Friendly City Day in Ottawa, on Saturday, Mr. Irwin Elman, Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth has accepted the Children's invitation to be in Ottawa to walk with them.  Please come.
